19.  Is stucco suitable on our wet west
coast?   How long does it last?
      How thick should it be?

Properly installed, with 2 layers of 30 minute paper, with 2 base coats and a finish coat made of cement totaling 5/8-1 inch thick, with flashings at the correct locations, with compression joints replaced with slip joint through wall flashings on the floor joists and with balconies vented and flashed with the stucco walls, with reasonable overhang protection…with cementacious stucco finish….there is no more durable cladding that stucco.  It will last a minimum of about 25-30 years without much in the way of attention….and 40-50 years with a bit of a face lift.  Properly maintained and cleaned….not painted…not pressure washed…it will probably endure in the neighbourhood of 60-80 years.  That is durability.
